Investment teams work autonomously but collegiately. And without bureaucracy, meaning they can focus on what they do best: managing money. Stability is key and many of the firm's individuals – both investment and management teams – have long tenures.

Risk levels within the strategies can be customised to suit different tolerances. If we cannot adapt the strategy to achieve our client’s objectives, our transparent and honest approach will mean we say so, rather than aim to gather assets at all costs. Indeed, the strategies at Polar Capital have set levels of capacity in order to preserve performance.
While investment autonomy is central to Polar Capital’s approach, portfolio characteristics are observed and monitored centrally by Polar Capital’s CIO and risk team and ESG monitoring is an integral part of the oversight process. The risk team monitors each portfolio’s ESG characteristics every month and circulates the results to the portfolio managers. Each strategy is then reviewed in detail every four months in a meeting with the lead fund managers. Analysis of each strategy’s ESG profile is part of this process.
